What humidity schedule do you use?

Seems like I have the worst hatching when I even check the humidity. So I quit. I just add water to the bator like the instructions say about every three days till day 18 and then fill the troughs. Those that just hatched in the bator in the turner, one hatched prior to the water added and the later hatched after water added. If I had been adjusting problably would have messed the whole thing up. That's just me though.

Just wait till you get to thermodynamics. That is where you learn that the "boiling point" of liquids is dependent on the atmospheric pressure. The "real" sea level boiling point is something like 99.7 deg C. Lots of interesting stuff in thermo. I recommend taking when you get to college.

As for humidity, yeah, I don't check on it myself. I just watch the air cells and judge if I should add water or not. I like to do dry hatches though since it's a lot less messy and stinky. Just imagine too the permeability of the eggs, circulation, and surface to volume ratio. Too much to think about really if you only want to hatch eggs!

Oh Speckledhen, the humidity recommendations would be the same, just the area needed to reach the "correct" humidity would change. Not that it would be that big of a difference though due to elevation.

Silkiechicken im not at high school anymore lol, im at college doing Musical Theatre so i don't do chemstry. I got a Higher B in chemistry though when i was at highschool.

school of engineering? what the hell are you talking about lol. Do you forget im in scotland lol. I was at university last year but dropped out of my course to go back to college, my colege doesnt offer any science at all (except from computing science).

Haha, didn't know you were in scotland! That's cool. I am sure the school system there is different than here. At our university, we have colleges of engineering, Arts and Science, Business, Law, and something else I think...

Haha, "was" in highschool. I get it. Go ahead and take thermo though! It should be offered through the school of engineering and it's pretty cool.

that is right not math, not chem, not physics...but the engineering college is where you find it. Many are unhappy once they have found it. It is required course for many engineering majors.

So silkie what kind of Egr are you?

Perhaps different breeds have different shell permeabilities? I'll bet the 60 & 80% recommendations were developed on Leghorns. (which is what I have, so maybe I should raise my humidity...)
