what if a broody

It probably wouldn't be good for the eggs. I doubt it would kill them, though.

Hi! They should be fine. I've had lots of eggs hatch early while still in an auto-turner.
You might want to keep an eye on her. I've had first-time broody girls that 'weren't quite right' and started trying to kill chicks as soon as they started pipping. I've got one that's goofy and pushes the hatchlings out from under her while they are wet --- and won't let them back. If she is on eggs, I have to catch them quick and bring them in to a brooder.
Good luck to you and the hen!

Oh my goodness! I had no idea broodies were sometimes 'not quite right'. =/
I have been lucky, all 4 of mine were successful....no loopiness.

I have a 1st time broody silkie and she rocked! Hatched em successfully even though I moved her 4 times in the 1st 2 days of her broodiness.
She just hatched out one of her own, 2 Porcelain Duccles and 2 Mille Fleur Duccles.
And is being a very good mama!!

For those of us newbies, What is lockdown and how do you know when a new hen isn't right? We have 8 eggs that have all been candled and are "dark" with signs of veins to varying degrees. We have somewhat isolated her from the other three hens now on day 17 but have no incbator but here in Arizona the daytime temps in the coop even with ventilation and cooling can reach the mid 90s.

We have raised many roosters (thanks to the schools hatching programs) but now have fertilized eggs and we are reading to learn but are clueless on the need for incubators and lockdowns.

Please educate us!
