I know that you can do what you want to marauding dogs unlawfully on your property, but what about if your chickens wander into neighbor's yards? If their dogs attack your chickens unlawfully on their property, do you still have a "case" against killer dogs?

Has this ever happened to someone free-ranging their chickens?

I doubt that you would have much recourse against your neighbors or their dog should your chicken be killed while trespassing.

In order to have chickens, I HAVE to keep them in an enclosed yard. Just like if I had a dog.
You would certainly be out of luck if someone snacked on your birds if they were in someone else's yard.

I once saw a pheasant by my wood pile, ran inside grabed a gun and as I was opening the door to go get diner. a neighbor was about to knock and ask if we had seen their bird.
Moral of the story is keep them locked up or dont be disapointed if they dont come home.
