sunshine is very strange. She'll let me hold her and she calms down.... I spend a lot of time with my chickens it's not simply me just feeding and housing them... I deathly love my chickens and I go as far as taking naps with them in the sun lol.... So all of my birds see me as a flock mate.... but sunshine is new... She came from a slaughter house and was going to be killed... they were treating her very poorly when I got her holding her by the wings and everything so I understand but... All of my chickens were like that... my oldest hen was terrified but she soon realized I was protecting her so she would start climbing on my chest to sleep and huddle up with me. All of my chickens do that except sunshine she's like terrified. You guys may know a lot about chickens but you probably don't take things as far as I do and becoming a "flock mate" to them by sleeping and digging with them. I did it, that way and they learned to trust me I became a fellow chicken.. That's why my chickens are tamed. I have a big role in their normal social lives with each other and they respect me. I think sunshine is just going to need some time... I don't think it's anything I'm doing per say I just think she's a bit traumatized. I'll have to start spending time digging with her and I think she'll get used to me like the other chickensI agree with the above post. It sounds like Sunshine is not the bird for you. It could be you're stressing her out, trying to make her be tame. She may not be acclimated as well to people and being handled. I don't think chickens are able to process the fact that since we feed and house them they owe us the decency of acting like pets. If she's really causing you this much trouble, I would suggest finding her a new home.
