what is a bump?

When you BUMP....you post a message to a thread to bump it up on the current thread list. It is a way to keep a thread going and visible to others.

6. No Spam. Spamming is posting the same thing several times. "Bumping" (posting to move a thread up on the forum list) and cross-posting (posting the same thread in several forums) are examples of spam.

I dont understand how bumping is Spam though.

Bumping is spam because it is not adding to the value of the thread. Just as those nokia and pharmacuetical people post on every forum to try to call attention to themselves.

So "ya really", bumping is spam and I remove every "bump" post I come across unless it is something urgent like an emergency post that has not been answered. The worst are in Buy Sell Trade.

Just a question.. So if no one has responded to your post and instead of writing "bump" you put something like "can anyone help out" is that still spam?

If it is an emergency in the "Emergencies" forum and you have waited a decent amount of time, then no. By decent amount of time, I mean a an hour or so. The ones that demand an answer every 5 minutes because they feel that someone should have answered them is considered spam.

If you are posting about your cute chick and no one answers you, bumping it is spam.

In other words, bumping should be done carefully and sparingly if at all.
