hello, I was hoping to get some help. My friend and I use her farm animals for a petting zoo. we are now looking for some new chickens due to a fox problem, and I was wondering what breed of chicken is really kid friendly, we only have our animals for pets, and getting eggs are secondary to just having a very nice friendly birds, we like the kids to be able to hold them and pet them without the birds getting to upset. any suggestion as to what breed would be good for this would be helpful to us, as the birds we have now can get a little aggressive after a little while. All the birds she has now where given to her as rescues, and we were not looking to replace them, but we are now down to only having 3 chickens, so will now need to replace the ones which the fox was able to get. (seems as if it got our more friendlier ones) . I am new to chickens as I just got into business with her back in April of this year, both of us know more about some of our other animal breed (horses, donkey) so any help you can give me would help us decided what breed of chicken to bring into our home would be great. thanks.

As Duckopolis has suggested, Buff Orpingtons are great with kids, being calm and gentle birds. Black Australorps have the same calm, gentle temperament as the Orpingtons (not surprising since they were originally bred using Orpington stock). I have had both breeds for years (and still have them) and have never had an aggressive bird among either breed. My children, and now my granddaughter, made pets of them both. Which one is better is somewhat subjective. The Orpingtons are slightly prettier (in my opinion), but the Australorps are better layers. You can't go wrong with either breed.
