When thinking about egg production, feed cost, personality and even color, what would you choose?
Me, I would choose :
rock
Salmon Faverolles
Easter egger
Orphinton
Cornish
Wyandotte
Leghorn
Hamburg.

I'm pretty happy with my mixed flock. I have 2x buff orp, 2x easter egger, 1 barred rock and 1 cinnamon queen. I'm thinking of adding a couple after some coop renovation and will probably lose the cinnamon queen, add 1 more barred rock and 2 BCMs. (might as well stick with pairs. LOL)

I went to tractor supply today. Picked up 3 RIR, 2 BSL and a random banty from the assorted bantam bin to make the 6 chick minimum. The cinnamon queen is still on the edge of leaving and there's a highly likely chance I'll rehome the banty once it grows out a bit, but that will leave me with 2 buff, 2 EE, 1 barred rock, 3 RIR, 2 BSL and some sort of (OEGB?)banty X standard roo.

I have, 2 barred rocks, 2 light brahmas, 1 golden comet, 1 black australorp, 1 white rock, 1 Delaware, 1 buff orpington, and a Easter egger.

1 CCL
1 White Leghorn
1 Australorp
1 Barred Rock
1 Buff Orpington
1 BCM

I like different egg colors.

I rehomed all my big girls do to predators and now only have bantams. I loved my barred rock but she lead the rest far and wide. My Brahma was mean, go figure! My Easter eggers were taking by hawks the same day. I now have an enclosed coop and 12 Salmon Faverolles in the incubator. I'm going with one breed this year but I think I'm going to miss a mixed flock

My mixed flock all seems to get along well. The next time I add chickens I plan on adding one or two white egg layers just for variety. If I can find some that are good for cold weather. I have
2 SLW's
2 speckled Sussex
2 easter Eggars
2 welsummers
1 barred rock
1 White rock
1 buff orpington
1 cuckoo Marans

The few white layers I tried were way to flighty. Jumping out of the brooder running around upsetting the calmer chicks. Hamburgs were the craziest followed by Minorcas. They were beautiful but just a little too excitable for my taste.
