what is a sex link chicken?

Nope thats not a sexlink or real barring acutually, thats a typical mutt pattern like in most Easter Eggers are that color, that barring look with disperse after if gets older and it will take on some mixes looking red color. I'm a bit surprised by that color though, I would figure it would be more a a black color since one of the parents was black and black takes dominants over most pattern genes.

yes, there were 3 chicks. 2 are back and then the GT stripes one. Oh well, lets see what it turns out to be!

ok, next really stupid question.....what does barred mean? does that refer to the GT stripes?

What do you mean by " GT " strips ? Barring is the color pattern of Barred Rocks, Dominiques, Cuckoo Marans, ect.... ( Cuckoo is barring on a rapid feathering gene bird that maks the barring blurred and less defined .

Excellent! Thanks for the help. Next time I have a question, I'm coming strait to you!

oh, and 'GT Stripes'...... Well here in South Africa, the racing cars always have these two large white line over the top of the car. Nobody really knows why, but the theory is that the lines make the car go faster (LOL). those lines are called GT stripes. So when the chick came out with these stripes over the back, it was instantly called GT stripes. we suspect he/she is going to be a speedy chicken!

Thanks again!

Yeah I like that (GT) racin' stripes. we actully use the term chipmunk patterned the color is evident that color is whats known as wild type coloring which is usually brown/red like you posted or silver/black, look at the sex link thread posted earlier by tadkerson youll see he has some wild type colored chicks posted on there.

We'd love it if you put "South Africa" in your profile so it prints on the left below your avatar. Relevant to so many topics, and interesting to us plain old US'ers, too.

OK Thanks That makes sense. And like Catdaddy said we here in the US usually refer to that as the " Chipmunk" pattern becuase chipmunks are striped and brown and the chicks look like little chipmunks.

Haha, and yes, since the majority of us on here are from the US, it really helps when people, especially who arent from the US, put where they are from in their profile so when we see something like that that is different from what we call it, we can look and see where you are from and then we know its just a difference in location and what we call certain things. Like in the US, most of their Sexlink crosses and hybrids go by different names than ours here in the US and some here in the US get confused when they read some of the UK Hybrid names.

But Welcome and yes if you have any other genetic type questions in the future and if you want to PM me ask first, I will do my best to help or refer you to someone that I know can help you.
