Hello! I hope that I am posting this in the right spot. Can someone help me to put a breed, and gender, to Bo?
We found Bo online, and agreed to adopt "him" as a mate/pal for our African Brown, Mocha. Mocha grew up with Cooter and Daisy, but they are China Whites, and Mocha seemed like odd goose out. So, when I saw a "male African Brown" advertised, I excitedly agreed to take "him.".
Husband and son went to pick up our new friend. When "he" got home, I was astonished to see a short, thick neck, and no brow bump! I hoped that the other similarities, however, would be enough to charm Mocha. After all, they say, "birds of a feather," not "birds of a bump."
Mocha was not charmed. She was horrified. Both she and Daisy were horrible to poor Bo. Cooter, the white gander, was more or less indifferent to Bo. As time has gone on, the rift between them all has healed somewhat. Bo will now hang around with the others by day, albeit at a short distance, but sleeps as close to us as possible. During the warm months, and as far into the fall as possible, we sleep outside. Why else endure Californians, but for a climate that allows such eccentricities? So, Bo stays very close to us at night
I don't know why, but tonight, for the very first time, I noticed that Bo has a really deep voice. It is deeper than either Mocha or Daisy's, and deeper by miles than Cooter. Also, Bo is much quieter than the other three. I guess I had assumed it was because Bo did not feel enough at home to be vocal.
So, I had just accepted the "gander" status, without question, from Bo's former person. I knew that "he" was not an African Brown, and, after a bit of research, concluded that "he" must be Toulouse, Pilgrim, something similar, or a mix. Can anyone make a more reliable ID?
Regarding gender, I have read that males tend to be stockier, and more masculine than females, but since I have no others of Bo's breed, I cannot make such a comparison. So, again, any ideas? It seems important, as we are now seeking a companion for Bo. Mocha seems to have solidified her position with Daisy, and Cooter, ever since Bo came. So, we still have one lonely, outcast goose, it is just not the same one as before. But, I don't want to botch it this time! I want to find same breed, opposite gender. But, I need help to know what those are.
Any input will be most appreciated! Thanks!
