what is everyones favorite and best egg laying varieties.

I have plymouth rocks, black sex links, rhode island reds. I want golden comets but don't have time this year for chicks, updating coop and run.

My favorites by far are leghorns. My RSLs are darlings but unfortunately they do have shorter lifespans than other breeds. I also am a fan of rocks and wyandottes.

I don't have very much experience, and although she is over 3 years old now, my RIR does a mighty fine job of keeping up with the egg laying. She's a small bird too, Id say maybe 3 pounds and gives most of the times, nice large to x large eggs. It's amazing sometimes, how does that huge egg come from such a tiny bird? she lays probably 5 eggs a week. Typically goes 3 or 4 days then takes a day off. WHen she did stop because of molting, she only was out for id say 2 weeks maybe 3 tops, she came back very fast. Another hen I had took almost two months to start laying again, so I am very happy with Big Red. She can be a drama queen but is very reliable and well... hate to say it... loveable too :D

I don't have one of Rita. :hmm

They are a mix from Hoovers so colors vary A LOT. Rita is a dark chocolate color with a few gold highlights.

They have yellow legs not green like EE's and are said to include leghorn in the mix to increase production. Both lay a light blue egg.
