What is Flushing?

I'm seeing this in post's but am new to quail and have now idea what "Flushing" means.

when you get close enough to them in the woods you force them to take flight . depends on how close you are to the birds kina sounds like a firearm being used in a rapid fire mode

In pen raised quail it is when the quail get spooked and try to flee whatever scared them by jumping up and flying into the top of their cage at speeds that can and do break their little necks

as described earlier--- they will jump and fly blindly upward and bounce or ping pong off of the inside roof of the pen. Many times causing injury or death. This may include broken necks or facial injuries that prevent eating and drinking, degloving of the scalp on their face/ head/ neck, or blinding injuries to the eyes, broken beaks, etc... 2 best ways of preventing this--- #1, low ceilings--- keep the pen roof low enough they cant get up the speed/ force to hurt themselves. #2 solid roofing material such as plywood, or metal sheeting--- again at a lower height................. Oh yeah you can add bourbon to their water daily
