Rats go in there for the food. Everything else goes in for the birds. I agree, if it were mink or weasels you would have a dead birds.

Block the holes again and use a rat-killing method of choice.

You can buy it at any local feed store "Just One Bite" works for rats and Peligros. (but you want to be certain your chickens or other pets can't get at it. We use little bait tubes.

Maybe using scent darts with fox urine on them... we had a rat problem a couple years a go and it seemed to work. The fox is a natural predator of the rat.... idk

but if it's a mink or a weasel I have no idea. I do know that rats like to eat poop so maybe that's why you haven't lost any birds.

Is there any space that the bottom wire could be seperated from your 2x6? if it is nailed or stapled they may pull it a bit on the side and slide through a very small hole. You almost have to frame the wire in to prevent that. Thats my plan this spring in my coop. Right now we just have the wire burried around the outside in our hard clay. Whew with chicks the critters do keep us hopping. Jean
