I'm new here....My name is Barb. This is my sons chicken. A neighbor gave him a chicken and that started a new hobby. He's had 7 for about 2 weeks. I found this chicken (Nacho) soaking wet in the middle of the yard. All tucked into her feathers. I took her in the house to warm her and put her under a heat lamp. She is not eating not drinking. I did do some reading and I do understand that if they can't see food or water they won't eat or drink. Is this that disease the mosquitos give them? We live in Savannah GA.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this! Could you try to give her some sugar water? Hopefully others that know more can help you soon! :hugs

Welcome To BYC

I agree, it looks like Fowl Pox. It can be much harder on chicks.

Does she have any lesions inside the beak? I see some on the feet too.

For the lesions on the comb, nostril area, side of beak and feet/toes, you can paint those with Iodine to help dry them up. Dab/paint don't rub the Iodine, try not to disturb the scabs.

For the eyes, apply an eye ointment like Terramycin eye ointment or Original Neosporin. See if you can gently work the eyes open to get the ointment in to the eyes.

If she can't see, then you'll need to syringe/tube or hand feed/water her to keep her going until the scabs start healing and she's able to eat/drink on her own. Some folks make a slurry out of chick starter, others find that using something like Kaytee Baby Bird formula is easier to syringe/tube while the bird in recovering.

I kinda thought she had some on her feet. I don't know about inside her mouth. I will check when I go over tomorrow. Bringing iodine with me and a syringe and eyes drops if I still have some. Thank you for responding. ...Barb
