What is it? 12 wk old tucking tail, smelly butt but not pasted...

I have a young maran rooster , about 12 wks. Free ranging, I picked him up because it looked like someone was picking at his tail feathers.
When I looked at him, his tail feathers were all there and intact, but he was carrying them tucked under appearing he has none.

He is eating normally. Normal activity. No puffed up feathers.

The only abnormality I could find is that he had a few loose stools around his back end which smelled awful. They weren't dried on but there were 4-5 on the feathers when I looked at his butt.

any insight on this fellow BYC'ers? I have not started any treatment yet

I would start by cleaning him up with a warm bath and mild soap. If the poos are dried on let the water soften them and then remove. After you see what is going on you can post your findings. Does he have an open sore, has he been picked on etc.
