Henderson Nevada aka Las Vegas
so still working on the big chicken run. let me start with deatils where I live

Henderson Nevada (suburb of Las Vegas)

End of May to start/mid September its freaking HOT at hightes we are 120+ (you will not ever see this on news as it scares the tourest away)

Mid Sept throught Oct and part of Nov you can still wear shorts during the day but cooling off at night

Nov - Feb its a toss up we may have 3 or 4 night heating freezing some years its warmer some cooler most the time you need a light weight jacket evenings and early am then most part your good during the day then March to May the warm up

Now for my ? about the run is it more importatnt to really shade it up and make is summer protective but by doing that winter means its going to be a lot cooler for the as is there coop only is in the sun from sunup till about 11 - 12pm then there coop and there small temp run is in the shade. I twas thinking about planting more shady trees around the coop.

what do you think.

It is much more important to protect them from the heat. Good luck

I just moved back home to Utah from Las Vegas and know how hot it gets. I would definately focus on shade, shade, and more shade. You may even consider giving your chickens frozen watermelon when it gets real hot and purchasing a mister that hooks to a hose. Below is a a few links full of wonderful information. These chicken bloggers are amazing.
