Be sure to not eat the eggs of birds coated or sprayed with blue cote - feed store owner warned me. Check the back of the package about warning to not use on cattle etc. for human consumption. I think (could be wrong) that it soothes but does not deter. It is a nuisance, but I use Rooster Booster Pick-No-More lotion on bald spots because others don't like the smell or taste and the bird gets a break from being pecked at the feeder, on the roost, or in the dust bath. The other birds come over to peck a bottom or elsewhere and then shy away. The downside is that seems to lose it's action after a day. I have a little dish & dispense some in the dish, pick up a bird, smear it in the general area, and the others take the hint even if it is not evenly applied. It comes from our feed store. I do believe it is soothing, too.
I too have some pinless peepers on birds, but one small bird shakes hers off. Another "lost" hers over night. Two of my eight girls have them on. One bird was a terror to others trying to lay eggs, whacking them repeatedly, jerking out feathers like mad while the victim just took it. I should teach her kung fu.
