We have 1 duck and 2 chicks. We won't be able to keep past 7 weeks or so because against HMO rules. I figure while they are inside it is no different than people having parrots. We are concerned about finding them a good home. They will be super super tame but we don't know gender or bred. :( Besides the duck it is a Mallard.

by 7 weeks u will probably be able to tell the gender. if they are pullets u could probably find them good home since many people will want hens for eggs, though this will depend on the breed. Either way hens will be much easier to rehome then roos. I would post an add on craigslist when the time comes. Hopefully u will have more info on breed and gender by then. Do the same for the mallard

Do people ever look for roosters?
Hi Graceby3 ! and

Absolutely! List them on craigslist or BYC as flock guardians.

I had tree nice Light Sussex boys I neeed to rehome last season. Found out a family nearby had lost all their roosters to a coyote attack. Subsequently fortified their runs but no roosters! So I gave then the three of mine to guard the leghorns. Worked out fine for everyone. Why don't you post pics of the cockerels here. That will make a big difference in advertising them for rehoming. Actually, we have special thread just for that need. Post pics of them here:

There are a bunch of BYCer's who just wait for the chance to help ID gender and breed. Very helpful folk!
