I've been seeing a lot of thread about the deep litter method and I'm wondering exactly what it is?!
I also have some confusion about coop cleaning. I am planning on using straw in my coop and it sounds like people don't really clean their coops on a regular basis? I thought I'd be cleaning the coop out once a week, do I not have to?!
Thanks for entertaining my newbie questions!

Use the search function and read away. Just type "Deep Litter Method" ! There are a couple of lengthy threads with all the info you need.

There are different versions of the deep litter method but this article gives you a brief oversight. Like everything else to do with chickens, we are all unique. Instead of rigidly following a formula, adapt what you learn to suit your unique circumstances. That’s a key to being successful with chickens, be flexible and adapt.

Hopefully you read my post in that other thread.

We are all unique. Some of us clean practically every day. Some of us practically never clean. There is no one right way where every other way is wrong. It’s which way you choose and what you think may work best for you.

An easy example. I don’t put anything on my droppings board, just rake it off and put pure poop in my compost. Blooie plans to use sand and PDZ. It’s just a different way to accomplish the same thing. Neither way is wrong and neither way is the only way to go about it.
