This fowl came up in my yard and tried for hours to get in with my chickens. It made it into my duck pen but continued trying to get with my chickens, lol... Is this a guinea fowl? Trying to find the owners but so many in my neighborhood have poultry. If I can't find the owners I will try to take care of it but want to know if it's male or female. Also would it be able to stay with my chickens or ducks (2 separate pens but next to each other to interact without touching).

It is a juvenile Lavender guinea. Guineas cannot be sexed from photographs. The easiest way to sex guinea fowl is from their calls. The hens make a two syllable "buckwheat" call. My neighbor said it sounded like 'puh kwee" to her. Males do not make a two syllable call.

It is best if it can be placed with someone who has guineas. They are s flock bird and do best in large groups. In most cases they do not do well with other types of poultry. Their instincts are unlike any other poultry and can lead to causing great stress with other poultry.

Thank you for the advice. I've asked all that I know around and they have all said that they have all of theirs. Where can I find a way to rehome the little one? I can't just let it go (my luck it would come right back lol)... sorry for all the questions I'm a chicken & duck guy and never pondered guineas before. It is trying ultra hard to get in with the chickens also...

It was probably raised with chickens.

Try advertising on your local craigslist, your local Facebook, local feed stores often have bulletin boards where you can post. Local radio stations often have a call in lost & found section.

Good luck finding it a home.
