I read the abnormal chicken egg page and I don’t see my egg compared to any on that page. It’s not blood and it doesn’t wash off and it’s on all her eggs. It’s only on one end of the egg shell. She is a Rhode Island Red, 1 year and 4 months. They eat organic chicken feed from a local farm and are free ranged on 1 Acres. The Egg inside is normal and I do eat them but I am just curious as what it could be.

I have been getting those every so often for a couple weeks now. In fact, I got one today! No idea what they are. I’d love to know as well! I attached a photo of one I got.

I'm guessing it's uneven pigmentation. sometimes the shell will be thinner at such spots. Try putting your flock on a higher protein feed, give them supplemental calcium offered free choice AND give them a good multi vitamin, including vitamin D. Check the mill date of your feed. Is it less than 6 weeks old? If it's older, the nutrient/vitamins may be suspect.

At the points of discoloration there does seem to be more checking or porous shell.
Vitamin D3 is the D Vitamin most needed.

Thank You for your replies, I will start adding some D vitamins to thier mix. They always have full and free choice of oyster shells and stones/grit. She must be deficient or lacking in something since the other 10 chickens are fine. I’ll make sure to give her a little more protein daily when I feed. Thanks again.
