Was just on the ground, not in poop. DH thought it was a very fine piece of string and reached to pick it up so a chicken wouldnt eat it when it moved. It's so thin, much thinner than dental floss, in the pic, looks much thicker than it really is. Forgive the blurry pic-my camera doesnt do well in low light. I was thinking roundworms were thicker than this.

Can you give chickens Panacur ? Its what I have always used to worm my dogs , cats and goats ... Way cheap , does good job, and lasts forever

It does look like round worms to me too. My dogs had an infestation a few years back and it looked exactly like that.

Maybe as a precaution worm all your pets for them. Better safe than sorry!

I do have a dog, however, she rarely is in that area of the coops. This was outside of the chicken pens about 15 ft from the closest coop, on our "yard". At first, I thought roundworms, but for some reason, was thinking they were larger than this. Thanks for the input, all.
Anyway, I decided to worm the entire flock (and the dog)since I am way ahead on eggs at the moment. I'll use invermectin on the ones who are molting and panacur paste(fenbendazole) on the others. I'm not sure that they even have worms, however, I picked up my older SLW hen, Violet, and she seems too lightweight. Not sure that has anything to do with worms because her two sisters died from internal laying last year and her eggs have issues at times lately. Hope I don't lose my Vi soon.

Just to be safe, everyone is being dosed, though I ran out of invermectin and will have to get some tomorrow and finish up with the molting birds. (fenbendazole has been known to cause feather deformities in molting birds, is why)
