I have two dark brahmas, 7 weeks old with identical missing feathers down their back (see photo) my other two same age from same hatchery don’t have this, there feathers came in 2 weeks ago. any clue what it is or if I need to do anything? It looks like my rooster when he molted, but they are only 7 weeks old. They seem healthy overall. Thanks :)

I had an Easter Egger chick have that same baldness once, she didn't grow them in until she was about 15 weeks old! Not sure why it happens, but I'm guessing your pullets should grow them back eventually. :)

I just picked up some 4 week old chicks that came from (IMO) overcrowded conditions with no available food. Granted the guy just got back home and I'm sure was going to feed all that eve. They have a bald spot in the same place, I saw chicks pecking each other there when they first arrived here, home, now that they have plenty room and constant feed, their feathers are quickly growing back. I thought it was a safe guess it was caused by pecking do to boredom, overcrowding and maybe anxiety. I do not see bugs.

I got them when they were a day old, this started when they were getting their feathers in, they are def not overcrowded, hopefully they are just late bloomers :)

Funny, it is also my two light Brahma's, not my two BR's the same age, space etc. The last two Brahma's from same breeder, same age, same time of year did not have this spot but were also in a bigger cage with food and less occupants. So, maybe bad assumption on my part. Maybe someone else far wiser than i will chime in.

**** You got me to thinking so I just checked and stand corrected. 1 BR, 1 Brahma and 1 smoothie have ex bald spots. Feathers growing back nice and quick though. I'v never had this before. gunna stick with pecking. 1 BR, 1 lt Brahma are normal.
