Last week I posted about one of my girls issues on the facebook group and looked like it was vent gleet so I treated for that. It’s been 7 days and while she’s been pooping better, she’s still penguin stancing and just looks a little uncomfortable. She’s still eating and drinking but keeps to her self most of the day. Her abdomen feels a little swollen/bigger than the rest of the girls though. When I try to feel for an egg, I don’t feel anything hard or egg shaped.

I was thinking maybe water belly but her abdomen doesn’t necessarily feel squishy, it just feels firm but not rigid or hard.

I was also considering egg yolk peritonitis since i’ve seen her sit in the nests a couple of times and I know she’s of laying age but hasn’t actually laid an egg, maybe her first egg never formed right?

She’s been like this for about 2 weeks so I don’t think it’s a bad infection or I don’t think she’d have made it this far. In that time, she’s had 2 Epsom salt baths, 7 days of monistat, and has been given Wellness Brew and Hydro-Hen in her water (separately)

Any and all feedback appreciated.

Welcome to BYC!

Poor girl! How old is she?
She likely does have water belly, internal laying, egg yolk peritonitis, ect. (it can get a bit confusing)
But water belly (ascites) is fluid accumulation in the abdomen from organ failure. While internal laying and egg yolk peritonitis are reproductive. But I think the two can be linked.
I'm going to guess she has a reproductive issue rather than organ failure, due to the stance, and because she isn't gasping for breath and has labored breathing.
There's not a whole lot you can do, unfortunately. You could try draining her abdomen of fluid and see if you can get anything out. If it works and you get fluid out, you could do that as needed. It is only temporary though and she will fill back up.
Giving antibiotics could be worth a try to see if it helps. I believe in this case you would want Baytril/Enrofloxacin, but you could also use Amoxicillin.

Her stance and your description has me thinking that she is laying internally, hence the swollen firm abdomen etc.
Sadly, there is nothing one can do about it, just keeping an eye out to notice when she becomes miserable and it will be time to help her out of her misery.

She is such a beautiful girl! What is her age?

Thank you all for this information I have a 2 year old hasn’t laid in over a year and acting the same way I suspect I’m dealing with internal laying or egg peritonitis. I will just keep her as comfortable as I can and try some antibiotics if they will help.

So sorry to hear, good luck with her. :hugs

I completely understand having to deal with reproductive issues, I've had many have issues like that.
