What is wrong with my baby chickens?

I have several baby chickens over a month old. All of a sudden, a few of them just started pooping blood. Other than that, they are fine. Running around, trying to fly, eating well, drinking well. I think that I may have given them some earthworms as a treat just days ago. Did I mess up or is something wrong or are they pooping out worms? Their feed is not medicated which is scaring me now.

I’m thinking coccidiosis but i think someone more educated could confirm this? Hopefully this will bump the thread.

Sounds like they have coccidiosis. Have they ever been outside on the ground? Do you have Corrid on hand by any chance?

Sounds like they have coccidiosis. Have they ever been outside on the ground? It sounds like the earth worms might have exposed them to the cocci in the soil. Do you have Corrid on hand by any chance?

I did this to mine as chicks and that was how they caught it (from earthworms)

They have never been outside and they don't act sick at all. I don't have any on hand...do I need some?

Corid is always good to have, you can find it in Tractor Supply. You need some. Even if this isn’t the cause they will probably get it eventually, it’s better to have and be safe.

Well, i wouldn’t say that. You can’t prevent it unless you plan on never letting them outside, never letting them touch the outdoor grass and soil and plan on sticking them in a wire cage indoors. As long as it’s treated fast it can usually be reversed.

So buy Corrid and give them 2 teaspoons per gallon of water...is that correct? I am googling.

Well, i wouldn’t say that. You can’t prevent it unless you plan on never letting them outside, never letting them touch the outdoor grass and soil and plan on sticking them in a wire cage indoors. As long as it’s treated fast it can usually be reversed.

I also want to add that this stuff, as unfortunate as it is, just happens. The outdoors while giving great benefits gives great downsides, it brings the relief of boredom and health with bright yolks, but also parasites and worms. You can never really prevent all of it from happening, you just have to do your best to recognize signs and act fast.
