I have 3 Polish Top Hats that have a crossed beak. I need to have more info on this. Can they lead a normal life and are there special needs for them? Should I hatch eggs that come from them when the time comes? They are so sweet and I feel so sorry for them. I just need to know what I should do. Is there any way to correct this? Thanks

Three! Sounds like their parents have genetic defects when combined give your chicks the defects. I would not breed them, it is most likely a skull plate deformity, where one grows faster than another, or two skull plates have fused.

They can live well with deep water and deep feed dishes. Make sure they do not starve though as they do have a hard time eating.

I personally believe that no amount of non physical intervention, such as supplements or otherwise will be able to fix a skull plate deformity, if that is indeed what is causing the problem.

You can do a search on crossbeaks and see what others have done.

Best of luck!

I don't know anything about the crossed beaks, but you should not breed them. They will definetly pass the gene on, I would think. I heard someone else mention something about the crossed beaks, maybe do a search on it? I think I read there is no way to correct it. Sorry I'm not more help. Steph
