What is wrong with this egg!!!!

One of my poor babies laied this egg. It has a bump rig around the middle. It also has some cracks around the middle. What can I do to avoid this from happening again?

There is not really anything you can do, but eggs like that tend to be rare anyway. So you will probably get few or no other eggs like that.


Good chicken-care practices are always a good idea, of course:

Adequate bedding in the nestbox helps avoid eggs cracking when they are laid--which is not the problem with that egg.

Enough calcium helps avoid soft shells--again, not the problem with that egg.

Appropriate feed makes sure the hens have enough nutrients--yet again, not the problem with that egg.

Any crowding or integration issues going on currently?

It is from one of my 4 pullets. Only like 6 months I think. They have fowl pox. One of my girls (Plymouth Rock) is smaller then everyone and is constantly broody but is the bully. She pecks the Wyandottes but not my Barnevelder. That is a picture of my girls. They have a huge coop.

They are the only 4 in their coop. My other girls are at my school. They stay is a gooo that can fit 6 bird with 2 square feet outside and 1 square feet inside. They get let out in the mornings for a hour then again in the evenings for a few hours.

So huge compared to a bread box.......tight space for 4 birds, they might be crabby.
