Okay so I am trying to decide which breed(or breeds!) I would like to raise, I want to stay pure and do show quality birds. I already raise Australorps but am looking for something more rare and interesting! I would love to know some of your favorites!! Also tell what you love about the breed, thanks so much!

Some of the ones I like :

Light Sussex

Gold and silver laced wyandottes

Black Copper Marans

I have blue and black copper marans babies that are very friendly but the Ameraucana babies I have right now are really winning me over. They are @ 4weeks and every time I go near their brooder they all fight over who gets to fly up and sit on my arms and shoulders lol. They are the blue variety and real pretty too.

My favorites are cochins. The big guys, I've never had the bantams, so can't speak for them. But my cochins are the sweetest, friendliest birds I've ever had. So huggable! Popular at shows too.

laying hens

black sex link

gold and silver winedots

Gamefowl

kentucky hatch
any kinda hatch
kelso
and pumpkins

Going off this list I would say the Light Sussex. If you are looking for breeds other than what is on your list I like both Single and rose comb Rhode Island Reds best..

ive been through this same thing myself...... i personally keep coming back to bantam ameraucana and cochins (but im still hunting for some).

the ameraucanas are so unusual
and cochins are so cute!

Faverolles they are everything you can want in a chicken. Friendly, calm, beautiful, good layers, good meat birds, ocassional broodies, hardy, and did I mention sweet! I have had black coppers and wyndottes and they just don't compare.

Good luck choosing,
Henry

I am partial to Speckled Sussex, Bantam Cochin and Black Copper Marans. The Speckled Sussexes and the Bantam Cochins have the most wonderful personalities, especially the hens. The Black Copper Marans roosters are are very sweet and are easy to deal with. Buff Orpingtons are honorable mention.
