My wife says I'm crazy but I love to feed a bunch of young chicks grasshoppers! One grabs it and runs like crazy and the others all try to steal it.

Oh, I just love the looks I get from family members and co-workers when I tell them. some are surprised and others seem to be disgusted.

Watching them. The different personalities. The social order. When one has something they all want. Scratching, then looking to see what was unearthed. Their friendliness and wanting to be held. The way they look up at the sky when a plane flies over. The way they smell. (I know, weird)
Having them.

For me, its the undying love. I wouldnt trade a thing in the world for my pet chooks. I also love the challenge of getting them to realise that I wont hurt them, that Im their friend and their alpha hen.

I love their quirks; their different personalities. I love that knowing when I go out to the coop, i will have a bunch of gorgeous chooks waiting for me. I love the entertainment they give me; just being them silly selves.

I also love knowing that they could've ended up in such a bad place; at a horrid place were no one loved them, or cared about their well being, but only for the money the owner would've made. I love spoiling them rotten.

And I love learning about something i was so ignorant of before.

I am calmer because of my chicks. Scooping poop keeps me humble, and chasing chickens keeps me silly.

Right now i do not have any chicks but i can just image the wonderful feeling of going to the coop everyday and collecting my yummy fresh eggs!
