I went outside this morning, and my favorite hen Martha, was murdered. She was in one of their nesting places, so at first I thought she was just laying an egg. When I went to look though, she was dead. There was a ton of her feathers, in two different places. No blood anywhere. My other 3 that were with her, came to no harm. What ever it was left her head on, but her neck was horrible looking and there was a huge chunk on top of her poor little head, missing. Her left side was pretty much stripped to the bone. And her left wing was pretty much just bone with feathers at the end. What got her? I’m terrified for my other 3. I’m sharing pictures, because I need to know what got her. They’re very graphic. We use a dog kennel as a coop, and it’s worked really well for the past year and a half, but we think there was a small place on the top, that wasn’t completely secure and that whatever killed her, crawled up there to get in and out. My mom noticed it yesterday and figured we’d just fix it today. A big mistake.
She suffered terribly, didn’t she?
How we found her.
Top/back of her head.
Her left side.
/\ that’s her poor little face. We could only tell because of her comb.
