Found the remains this evening, nothing but what seems like half the feathers and the intesine. (one end of the intestine was hung up on a sappling about 12" off the ground) We can not find the other hen that is gone. Please help so I can prepare before further losses.

Oh yeah, this happened during the day. I gathered an egg from each of the girls when I got home today. So this had to happen after mid morning.

Have you read the Poultry Predator Identification thread/sticky yet?

I just read through it and I'm not sure. Are your birds free range or in a run?

So sorry for your loss and the fact that I couldn't be more help.

sounds like a hawk. If you do not disturb them, they will eat your bird at the point of the kill. It is hard for them to carry the carcus, but they will do it. If you find a pile of feathers and no carcus and it happens in the day time (late morning, early afternoon), it is a hawk.
