What killed my OEGB Rooster.

Even a bantam is a bit heavy for a Red-tailed Hawk. Coopers hawk needs to get weight down to less than a pound to fly with it. I can see tears that look like created by hawk tearing at it. A domestic cat would lick much of the meat off leaving a bunch of dull edges where meat is torn. Dry feathers not consistent with raccoon or opossum.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I have only lost 1 hen in all my years of chickenry to a winged intruder. It was horrific! I heard her screams and saw the Eagle on her. I ran out to her defense swinging wildly with a rake resulting in the Eagles Retreat. My most favoritest hen, Smarty, died in my arms a few minutes later. All the while my husband scolded me as to the dangers of taking on A full grown Eagle with a garden rake.

Now I know my flock isn’t safe I had a false sense of security with the trees and shrubs and predator tape it’s been at least 4 yrs since I have lost a bird to a hawk. I saw that one a Red Tail.
Trees and shrubs as cover not as effective when the chickens targeted are females only or represent small breeds.

Sorry for your loss. I concur that it is most likely a hawk, and as you know the worst part is that it will return. Do you have other bantams ? I'm guessing it's not a red tail and will be targeting smaller chickens. Good luck.
