When I finish my coop and am ready to go, I'll want 4 Bantams egg-layers. What type of Bantams will I want to get? I also have three young children, so a social, friendly chicken is a plus. Thanks for any advice.

From my experience, almost all Bantums are very friendly- but I've gotten them both from the same person, who knows how to raise a friendly chick. Lots of handling at a young age, I think is the key to nice chickens, regardless of breed.
Silkies are the sweetest and smallest, and kids love them because they look like little fuzz-balls. Good luck!

I've always had Old English Game Bantam Hens. Great layers and very friendly. Lots of colors to choose from and easy to find.

d'Uccles!

The two we raised this spring are so tame that when my daughter puts out her arm, they fly right up to her. Seramas and Old English Game bantams are the other breeds we have (cross breds), and they are sweeties, too, but the d'Uccles are the sweetest.

This is Peep, my favorite chicken. She is a bantam black crested white Polish. When I go out to the run, she come running up to me "peep, peep" and stands on my sneakers until I pick her up!

All of my OEGB hens are super, super friendly. But good egg layers they are NOT! They spend most of their time trying to hide their nests or hatch something

My 8-year-old DD has a mixed flock (see my signature below), but if we narrowed it down to the friendliest ones it would definitely be the D'uccle and the two Easter Eggers. They're pretty reliable layers too, and haven't been broody nearly as often as the Wyandottes and the silkie.
