I would like some feed back please on what is the best dual purpose bird, that can be also cold hardy, and rare. My husband said that I could get some Rose Comb RIW/RIR. I am just wondering if there is a better bird to get. I have Buckeye's, and Blue Amercauna not EE's, and a broody sitting on RIW Rose comb. So before I go and make a purchase, I would like to hear from you folks. thanks, also exhibition quality.

Dual Purpose, Cold Hardy, Rare. . . Brahma.

They're huge, puffy, sweet, and good for both eggs and meat. They're among the 3 largest breeds of chicken, and don't get much of a good market because of the complaint that they grow too slow. To me, they grow fine and are just plain underrated. They're my favorite!

Of course, plenty of people will probably guide you to Delawares and the sort, but I like my Brahmas. They're hard to find outside hatcheries though.

I have Single and Rose Comb R.I. Reds and they are very cold hardy now they are from breeders and not hatcheries.
*Just so you know real R.I. Whites only come Rose comb, the Single Comb type that a lot of the hatcheries sell are not R.I. Whites.*
