Hi I have a bantam silkie that became egg bound about a month ago... I was able to remove two soft shelled shriveled up eggs and she has been fine ever since except that she has not laid a single egg. She was never the best producer anyways but I was wondering if this means that she is becoming an internal layer. She is acting fine but her abdomen seems pretty big to me (not hard though), and especially compared to my other bantam silkie (who just stopped being broody so is probably thinner than normal) her abdomen is probably three times bigger than hers. I was wondering if chickens who are high producers are more likely to become internal layers or if it is the chickens like silkies who don't really lay a lot... or if its an equal opportunity, thanks in advance

High production, hatchery hens have a higher than usual incidence of internal laying. That being said- any bird can become an internal layer. I don't know what to tell you about your silkie. Sorry.

Good luck with her.
