What kind of Cockerel "could" be compatable with our 17-Pullet Chix?

Most BYC members ship hatching eggs, and can ship chicks if the weather isn't too hot or too cold.

It cost quite a bit to ship a larger bird I think. I haven't shipped yet, so someone else will have to tell you the cost of shipping lives.

Thanks for the heads-up concerning a Roo or 2 for our flock of 17.
Wait !! one more Question if I may?
Do ALL cockerels, and Roosters have a pronounced leg spur?
Is that the best way to tell if any of my 17 pullets are NOT Males?
My girls DOB 05/01/09

All roosters Ive ever seen has spurs and Ive seen game hens with spurs. At 17 weeks though a cockeral wont have much spurs if any. Cockerals at that age would have much more developed combs and wattles than pullets. Plus pointed saddle feathers between back and tail. And if one of your 17 week olds was a cockeral he should allready be crowing and courting the pullets. The brownies should soon be starting their spawning runs and going up the feeder creeks. Their should be great fishing if you have time to go!

Hackle and saddle feathers are the best way to tell, not spurs. Some hens grow spurs. Learn what those pointy hackle and saddle feathers look like. If you have two or three of one breed for comparison, the roos will also have fatter or thicker legs. Those are probably the easiest differences to pick up on at first.

Hey Catfish/Okie,
I'm sure you earned that name somewhere down the line, you must've tied into a big one.
River is a little low, but the water is fine!!!fish are bitting as well as the mosquitoes.
Do you Tie a Fly, and go down to the old "Okie"??
Haven't heard a solid Cock-a-doodle yet, but I'm sure hoping one of my Barred Rocks, or Buff O's is a male teenager.
I want to add Black Austrialorp, Black Star, Black & Red Sexlink,
and an awesome Welsummer to our flock by spring!! I can order all but the Welsummer from M.MCMurry so, I'll scout around somemore til I can order all from the same place.

Out of all our younger birds (and boys) the Salmon Faverolles seem to have the mildest temperament. Granted they are only about 5 months old, (they are producing fertile eggs, so have reached sexual maturity). They are very calm, can easily be handled by my children, aren't scared, and one is very friendly.
