My EE girl... about 16 months old, lays mint green eggs.

Is it a pea comb?

OK, thank you... just wondering if it is a normal-sized pea comb for a hen?

This is my first EE so I'm searching for a bit of information!

Yeah, she's got tons of feathers that one

So in girls, a pea comb and a walnut comb look sort-of alike?

What about a rose comb on a hen?

So confusing! Most "comb charts" only show the standard for roosters!

Hi Techno,

Long time no talk to. That's actually a form of a peacomb but as is often the case, and not unusual at all, an EE often will have a misshaped - sort of crinkled - comb. The comb on your hen is not out of the ordinary for an EE at all.

God Bless,

I still haven't learned to identify all of the combs yet . The pea comb is easy to identify because it has the little " peas " on a very low comb [ actually three rows but the two side rows may be nearly invisable on a hen ] ; but on the other hand can be a little confusing because often the crosses behind a bird with a pea comb can influence the shape and size ......... sometimes a pea comb isn't a " good " pea comb LOL . The rose comb is also easy because a good one resembles a tightly closed rose bud with the top pointing back from the head .......... but again not every one is a " good " one . I like these smaller types less likely to get frostbitten or torn and would guess you would too . Hope that helps .
