What kinda ducks are these?

There on the lake behind the house, I have been throwin scratch out for them and they don't leave... kinda like the cat you fed once a month ago. I am assuming there amix? I do know there is a breeding pair of wood ducks around that just had young a week or 2 ago. The wife likes the Pekin ducks and wants to get a few, would they intergrate as small ones if I let them go with these? I know a few will be eaten by bass, watched one snatch a moorhens last chick a couple days ago. Thanks alll

if you put ducklings on that lake you'll be able to stand and watch them be eaten too. you'd have to wait till almost adult size before letting them onto the lake. Not a good idea to let wild and domestic ducks intermingle. Thats why it's open season on Muscovies in Fl. and around the country.

In most locations it is illegal to take domestic ducks and release them onto open water where they can come in contact with and cross breed with migratory waterfowl such as mallards. It would have to be your private pond in order to "turn them loose" on it.

Domestic ducks can not survive being turned loose on a public body of water. they need secure housing for their entire life. They will need to be locked up each night to keep predators from killing them. You as the owner when you buy domestic (and even non domestic) animals as pets also take on the responsibility of providing all requirements from shelter to feed.

speaking of feed, they (meaning your domestic pets) need better food than scratch. I would also recommend that you stop feeding the wild ducks so they dint become dependent on you for food.

Those are mallards... most likely molting, although some may be Manky Mallards... Although it is hard to see, it does look like you may have both sexes there. Mallards are funny birds.... Although they are migratory, many will not migrate if they find a consistent food source... So, that is something for you to think about. Many mallards inhabit urban locations year round due to the consistency of food.

While the idea of feeding this sord may not be appealing to you, just like stray cats, perhaps you and your wife will have some babies next spring to observe and delight in... Being wild mallards, they will "most likely" fly away during the winter, but wouldn't it be fun if they returned in the spring for nesting? Then you don't have to worry about ducklings being eaten, etc...
