Today we got 3 eggs post molt. Which is a big switch from being cut off. We actually had to buy eggs for Thanksgiving.:idunno So, the good news turns into a funny story. This morning we got an egg from Rosie and blueberry. That was easy as Rosie lays a mostly round egg and is light brown in color. Blueberry lays a Mint green egg and is still smallish as she is an EE pullet. The caper came this evening as farria was singing the egg laying song to full volume, but we noticed something strange. It was not a farria egg at all, it was our older hen Penny that gave us the gift. Her eggs are very noticeable as they look like they have a belt on. Thank you penny and shame on you farria...BUSTED!!:lau

Yup, they can all sound off...
...for many different reasons, many of which we are unable to discern.
I call it the Raucous Cacophony!
Seems odd to me they would do that anyway. As nature goes you would think it would be counter productive. You would think Certain predators would learn that means fresh eggs!! Come get em.

True.....have always wondered why the roosters crows when it might call preds in.

I keep saying "Who knows what goes on in the mind of a chicken except God and the chicken, and maybe not even the chicken!"

Hopefully farria will lay soon:)

Mine sometimes sing a whole flock (6) chorus when only one lays :lau.

Glad to know I'm not the only one! All this time I thought it was just my chickens lol. :gigMy chickens do this all the time. Once they spot another chicken nesting, one will start and then it attracts more! Ha, my neighbors must love me.
