New to incubating, and I thought I was all set, and now I am second guessing myself. After 24 hours of rest, I set a dozen shipped eggs (Greenfire/overnight shipping) in to a Nurture Right 360, at 99.5F and 50%rh. I followed the incubator instructions and laid the eggs horizontally, with their pointed ends towards the center of the tray.

Now I am finding threads discussing shipped eggs and the need to incubate for the first 7 days vertically, at least. When I set them, I candled them and there were no air sacs visible, so I am assuming they were shipping right after laying.

I am concerned that I made an error setting them horizontally now, and I’m wondering if they should be vertical instead? If so, is it too late to do so, as they have been at temp and turning for 22 hours at this point?

Help? :barnie

I haven't incubated in "years" but have read that "shipped" eggs should be allowed to "settle" prior to incubating due to the justling they go thru in shipping.

Also did you calibrate the incubator prior?
I allowed then to settle for 24 hours at 65F, then brought to room temp before positioning them in the incubator. I did calibrate the incubator for both temp and humidity. Temp was spot on right out of the box, humidity reads 1% lower than both my hygrometers. I’m really focused on if it is too late to shift them to vertical now or not.

It's fine just continue on at this point. Don't worry too much about it.
You can still put them upright or just lay them down. They were overnighted so they probably didn't get messed up too bad anyway.

I have 7 Greenfire chicks in the brooder as we speak ... I placed the eggs in the incubator horizontally and they were fine! The 5 eggs that didn't hatch never showed any sign of life ... Good luck with your hatch ;)

Oh, my goodness. That is great news. I about vapor locked when I realized that I had followed the instructions from the incubator, instead of the ones I had carefully laid out from Greenfire!

If the air cells all looked good, I personally would go ahead and lay them on their sides.
You will get as many opinions as there are BYC members on incubating shipped eggs.
Good luck with your hatch.😊
