Quick question, what % of calcium is harmless in a roosters diet?
I'm looking at buying an all flock food online, the one I'm looking at has 1.4-1.9% calcium, is this too much?
Thanks

That is correct for roosters and non laying hens. That is what I use for my flock. I have hens only, but not all are laying. I provide cracked oyster shells free choice. The hens that need extra calcium supplement the needed calcium themselves.
The term harmless is kind of incorrect. The proper way to look at calcium percentage is Ideal, and Too much. Ideal for laying hens is around 4%. Ideal for all other is around 2%. I just rounded off my values for easy understanding. Non layers and roosters consuming 4% feed are not going to quickly die on you. The higher than needed dose does harm their liver and kidneys. It may shorten their life span, and quality of life. Oyster shells free choice is an option that chickens will not overdose on.
WISHING YOU BEST... :thumbsup
