Awwww I'm really sorry!!!! I looove little baby animals that I might find around the farm, and I have
tried to save them and raise them sooo many times, but their just sooooo delicate!!!! Poor little
guy was really cute

I would just be happy that you made a good honest try at helping them!!!

Did you ever decide what it was? Maybe it was a shrew??? I never would have picked it up, it has big looking hands for digging... yuck! Maybe he would have wanted to eat grubs or worms. Sorry - you couldn't help the little thing out.

I was planning to look up pictures and descriptions of lemmings and voles, but when it died I did not feel like it. I know that it is not a mouse because we just found two baby mice near their dead mother, who was killed by a mouse trap.

I am a Zoology teacher and it is definitely a vole. My cat LOVES them! She won't touch deer mice or other rodents. She brings them in and eats them, but leaves the intestines. Not fun to clean up, but I wouldn't eat the intestines either.
