What Rodent Is This?

We're pretty sure it's a rat, or a family of them.... My Mom's washing machine broke, so she looked under it to see if she could fix it. There was a huge nest under it! Then there's evidence of rats in her food storage. They took the labels off the cans. My Mom found a hole in her floor last night, with evidence of something dragging stuff down in it. She put a paint can on it, and she heard something "knocking" on it during the night. Another thing that makes us think it's rats, is the very loud chewing we've heard in the walls and floor. The mice never sounded that loud, and the mice seemed to have disappeared.

I'd say we dust off and nuke the site from space. It's the only way to be sure. We had a mouse invasion last fall after they cut the soybean fields 200 yards away from my house. man they are still thick in the chicken coops. But I have buckets to catch those with, soon as the weather stays warm enough to keep the water in them from freezing at night. You can do the work yourself OR go through the expense of an exterminator. It's a pain and I still have cabinets that I find old mouse droppings from so cleanup is a pain too. If that isn't bad enough, my mouser likes to bring me a live one from time to time to "share".
