Ok, so I have this coop and I don't know what to do with it. Well actually there is a whole bunch of things I want to do but I only I haveone coop. (Dad refuses to let me build any more coops)

Here are the things I want to do but I just cant decide which one to do.

~ Use it for my two batam hens and use as a grow out pen for my standards. (What I am doing right now)

~ Work on a particualar breed (something rare but not TOO rare)

~ rescue a couple of hens from a local egg factory and keep them in it

Here is the coop, honest opinions are welcomed.

And just for fun here is Lola, she was a the only one who hatched. I've ordered 25 new chicks as her new siblings that should arrive tommorrow.

I'm confused.

You actually have 2 coops, right?
And you have 25 chicks coming tomorrow.
Is that in addition to the 19 listed in your signatire line?

Just trying to get the big picture here so we can give better advice.

yes, I have 15(I need to alter my siggy) standards in this coop(#1) (you can actually see a bit of coop #2 in this pic) -

In the coop(#2) in the original post I have two batams and a young standard SS. But the SS roo is for sale.

I am gonna sell 1/2 of the 25 chicks so then I will have about 13 to keep here. When they are big enough they will go into coop #2 until they are big enough to go into coop #1.

But I am not sure what I want ot do with it next year. Do I want to start working on a certain breed? Should I leave as is or should I attempt to rescue some factory farm hens?

Do you guys get it now?

Guess it depends on what you WANT to do. I'm no expert, but if it were me, I'd LOVE to have a place to work on a particular breed. That's just me though.

And if you do that, I'm sure you have to be willing to cull quite a bit (or sell extras) because you'd only want to be breeding the best stock.

That's just what I would do if I could though.

Oops, edited to add: and you probably would need more small coops, etc. in that case unless you wanted only one roo and only one line to work with ... it really depends on the breed and what your intentions are. I know sometimes you need several colors to work into a particular goal, and that wouldn't work in a single coop/run like that.
