I am re-doing a section of my yard for a veg garden. I'm going to use raised beds and between them on the ground I'd like to plant treats for free-range hens. What sorts of things should I plant in my "hen garden"?

Grass.

Beyond that I always let whatever weeds pop up; hens also like mustards, beets, different oats, flax, stuff like that.

Mine go batty for clover. When they find it they eat like they're being starved. I think I remember reading somewhere that thyme is good for them. They also love cherry tomatoes. Stand back - they make a mess!

sorry to hijack!

What sort of grass is TOUGH? Crab? Bermuda? What is the toughest grass out there, besides astroturf? lol thanks I am curious of this as well!

Oh I didn't know it depending on climate. Hmm.. Okay I will figure that out. I know it will get killed, but if I just buy seed it will be worth a few days/weeks of their fun lol! Will be watching this thread!

I can grow grass anywhere I don't want it. I have found the easiest way to grow a hardy groundcover, is to leave loose soil be. The Earth quickly covers its scar with native vegetation (which likely includes weeds).
