What should you wash eggs with to clean them?

My chickens aren't laying yet but when they do what should I clean them with after I collect them?

I usually use warm water only, or if I'm doing a lot at one time, I'll mix the FIT Fruit & Vegetable wash as directed on the label and wash them with it. I figure if it's safe to use for cleaning veggies, it's gotta be safe to use for cleaning eggs.

I just use warm water and a drop of natural dish liquid. I only wash the ones I give away or if they are very dirty.

all i do is run them under water to rinse the poo off if it has any................ i don't know if that is right or not but that is what i do....

Some use warm water, warmer than the egg then refrigerate.

I use Apple Cidar Vinegar if dirty. I cannot use anything stronger than ACV because of allergies. Obviously I cannot use store bought eggs of any type.

Once in a while a Poo egg, I wipe off, clean with vinegar and cook for the dogs.

I don't sell except to neighbors, though. I don't clean any unless I need to, they store longer.

Change out nest bedding once a week or so to keep the nests clean. Normally the only dirty eggs are when it rains, from the Hens tracking mud into hen house. Those eggs I clean and use first. Actually any egg washed I mark with a W and it gets used first.

Once its washed the protective bloom is off and it will not last as long and is then open to bacteria entering through the pores of the shell.

I don't wash eggs until I am ready to use them and then I wash them with nothing but plain hot water.
You have to remember that eggshells are porous. If you wash them with anything and the water is not at least 20 degrees warmer than the egg itself, the contents of the egg will contract pulling dirt, germs and anything else on the surface into the interior of the egg.

I rarely get a dirty egg. I religious about keeping my nestboxes clean. The rare dirty egg gets fed to the dogs.
