What size of Hen House

How many chickens can I safely keep in a 4ft x4ft hen house , with a 3 place laying box ? Thank you in advance .

I have a 4x4 with 3 large breed chickens. It seemed plenty big last spring when I started but when the cold, rain and snow hit it got real small real quick. This spring I will build something a bit bigger for the 3 girls.

That sounds good for 4 maybe 5 chickens. You never want to crowd them, if you ever notice aggression due to crowding you can add things to entertain and distract them. I don’t think you’ll have that issue if you allow some free ranging.
