What the heck is this thing on the wall of my coop?

There is a coop on the property that we just moved to and this is on the wall. What is it? There is one on the other side too, but it is on the floor, I am assuming it used to be on the wall? But what the heck is it? It is a round metal cylinder attached to a round piece of plywood and it has a cord. The metal "drum" is about 12" in diameter.

The power cord makes me think it was used to put a light bulb in as a heater.

It is for a special type of chicken. They used to have them in the old times. They would climb walls, so people put the feeder on the walls to not waste all the food!

I reallt don't know though. I want to find out though!

It looks like a damper to me...

If you pull on the cord, does the flap open up? If so, that is your ventilation system. Open the dampers and let the air flow through.

I'd take it apart and look inside. That might solve the mystery.

It is hanging on a solid wall, with no hole behind it. It does have a lightbulb inside it!!! What would that be used to heat? 95% of the way to solving this mystery!
