What the heck kind of noise is this?

So, Blu is currently living in my bedroom recovering from some surgery before we take him back to the farm. My button quail, Quark, is allowed out while I'm in the room and keeps him company (read: eats his foot, runs circles around his feet, and climbs all over him if he lays down... I think Quark is in love). Quark makes a LOT of noise, it's like he's always muttering to himself, and he gets excited easily and trills when he runs around, very animated. Today, I heard a strange, high, descending trill that I had never heard him make. It happened twice before I looked over to see what Quark was up to, only to see Blu looking at me- and it was BLU making the noise! I asked him what the heck kind of noise that was, but he just tilted his head and made it again.

So of course I grabbed my camera and got him to make it while I whistled to him. It's faint since it was quiet and he was across the room, but toward the middle of the video he really gets going with it. Has anyone heard this noise before? In what context? He was sleeping before and fell asleep afterward... maybe he wasn't all the way awake!

I kind of sounds like the clucking my girl does in the evenings before she lays an egg?

Drat... I watched that video and saw the pics you posted previously. Then after watching you video, I saw a bunch with Osiris. Now I want a tame pea for a pet!

haha Osiris is Blu's brother! She is my baby girl, I love her so. She chatters sometimes, usually if she sees planes overhead. She thinks they are coming to get her XD

But now I want one like that!

Why did you do that to me? Where you the one who had videos a year or so ago whith the baby peas flying to perch on your arm? I always loved watching that...

I wonder if DH would notice if I kept a peacock in the house?

Is he deaf? If he is, he might not notice *cheeky grin* She and Blu were such a pleasure to work with in the house, I could certainly ignore the little messes and the constant pi-wheeping. They make the sweetest little sleepy noises when you cuddle them as peeps, and always seem to be saying "look at me, look at me, I'm over here, I need your attention, look at me!" I think my favorite "childhood" video of Osiris is when she helps my mom sort the mail XD

And yes those were my videos of Osiris in training to fly to us (it's my mom in the video as a baby). Osiris STILL jumps up on my arm, though way less often now (there's a video of her doing it up on my youtube from just the other day when my BF was visiting and he could hold the camera
). She gets that look in her eye too, and it's like I'd better put my arm up or she intends to land on my head!!

Is he deaf? I think he is most of the time...

I asked him a week or so ago if the noise from the peas bothers him (they are outside), and he said 'what noise?' He doesn't really notice the bird noise when he's awake and has the AC going when he's sleeping.

I saw that video when I was checking out the others you have. I haven't seen them all... yet. You have such awesome birds! Why does Osiris seem to be a favorite over Blu? Does she have a better personality?

Blu's a bit more shy than Osiris is. She was first hatched, so she got a few days of being alone, where as Blu had her to keep him company and has a little better idea of "hey, I'm a peacock, not a person" and my mom did most of his handling when he was a chick, while I had Osiris out.

*Everything* is Osiris' business, she is curious about anything we are doing and if she can't see what we're doing she gets worried we might be doing it without her. She's always the first to do things out of the group I have- first to explore, first to eat new treats, first to hop on new decor or investigate changes. It's terribly endearing! Blu is usually second in doing these things, seems to watch her for what to do. Where she comes up and begs to be pet, he is mostly just -tolerant- of it (though he seems to enjoy it more when settling down to sleep now that he's indoors and wants to roost in my bed, he will even put his head on me if I'm sitting by him).

Don't get me wrong, I love them both dearly, but Osiris is definitely my favorite.

my peachicks when they are on the perch ready for sleeping make a high pitched trilling noise. before we moved them to the large cage none of them made the noise, but on the perch next to the adult birds they trill at night, do you think blu would trying to sing the little bird to sleep? kind of calm down and go to sleep kind of a song?

I remember those noises fondly... but this was so much higher. I realized, after watching the video, you can't even really hear the noise. He made it after the first two whistles I gave, but I can't hear the noise in the video, just the slightly stronger chattering afterward... I have no idea!
