I was wondering, is it ok to start putting on a no crow rooster collar at 2 1/2 months of age? Because he has already started crowing.

I'm not a fan of no crow collars, but if you feel the need to use one, don't forget to keep adjusting it as he grows so that it does not strangle him.

I don't mean to be mean, I just am not interested in 'taking away the roosters freedom to crow'. I just want information about making sure it is safe for the rooster.

I think Sourland has given you the requisite advice. A collar will only likely reduce the volume by around 50% in my experience.
