This is the first time I have hatched chicks from a broody hen. They hatched out today and are in a nest box inside a barn away from other hens. What and when should I feed them? I have always fed my babies medicated feed. Is it ok if the mamma eats this? I dont hink they have all hatched yet. Should I take out the hatched ones to give them water? Like I said they are in a nest box. Thanks for any advice.

All I do is put a feeder with chick starter and water in there where the babies can reach it and mom does the rest. Ive never taken the babies away and all usually goes well, she knows what to do. Just make sure their water is shallow. Ive never even seperated mine from the others, nobody bothers them and the mom will protect them and keep them warm.....You don't need to offer them water, they are fine till the others hatch and then the mom will show them how to eat and drink, I would just leave em be...just put the food and water there for them when they're ready

That is the joy of it!...you only have to give food & water in a shallow dish & Mom does all the rest! She will take them outside in a week or so...
